Global Accessibility Awareness Day (GAAD) Community Conversations

Join us on Friday, May 19th for a GAAD (Global Accessibility Awareness Day) celebration through community conversations and spotlight co-design sessions!

What to expect

  • Spotlight Co-Design Sessions–
    • One-on-one 50 minute interviews will take place with participants who signed up (you still can!) to take part in the co-design sessions for AccessMap Multimodal interface (this is our customized trip planning and routing application to integrate pedestrian routing with transit station information, general transit and on demand transit). Participants will be separately reimbursed $50 for their time joining this study. If you are interested in joining the study but have not yet signed up, fill out this form. • Mainroom conversations–
    • From 10:30am-11:30am in the mainroom (Gates 371) attendees will discuss inaccessibility in transit stations, specifically focusing on attributes of the station that should be put on maps (examples: where tactile paving is and isn’t available, where braille displays of schedules are available, powerchair plug locations). Discussion of real time operational status of elevators, is unfortunately, not in scope for this conversation.
    • From 1:00pm- 2:00pm in the mainroom (Gates 371), we will report to our community about the conversations we have had in the past year on the intersections of transportation, race and disability. We called these conversations “Civic Changemaking Through Storytelling And Open Data.” We wanted to discuss the future of these conversations with you, and incorporate your interests and ideas.
